Returning to play: A New (Old) Direction

I’ve been feeling a pull lately to revisit something that used to bring me a lot of joy: making parody work. There’s something especially satisfying about taking beloved characters, traditional art influences, and a little imagination, then blending them into something playful and unexpected. It’s a process that feels both nostalgic and fresh at the same time.

In school, parody pieces were some of the most enjoyable work I created. They gave me room to experiment, to laugh a little, and to connect with art in a way that felt lighthearted without losing craftsmanship. Looking back, I realize those projects weren’t just fun — they helped shape how I think about creativity, storytelling, and my own artistic voice.

That’s part of why I’m excited to return to this kind of series now. It feels like a chance to reconnect with the kind of making that sparked real enthusiasm in me early on, while bringing in everything I’ve learned since then. I’m looking forward to exploring familiar characters through a traditional art lens, and seeing where that mix of humor, skill, and nostalgia leads.

More soon — I have a feeling this series is going to be a fun one!
